Presidio Trust Releases Letterman Residential Project Draft Environmental Assessment for Public Comment
 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 20, 2026—The Presidio Trust has today released a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Letterman Residential Project. The public is invited to review and comment on the draft EA through April 20, 2026.
 
The Letterman Residential Project would provide a mix of 196 studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments in the northeast Presidio at a site once occupied by the U.S. Army’s Letterman General Hospital. It would add much needed housing to the Presidio, restore the historic character of the area, make the area more inviting for the public, and earn revenue to operate and maintain the national park site.
 
The EA describes the need for the proposed project, alternatives, the existing environment that could be affected by the proposed project, the potential impacts from each of the alternatives, and measures proposed to avoid, minimize and/or mitigate potential adverse effects on the environment. The Trust will review and consider the EA, the comments received, and responses to those comments, before making a final determination whether to prepare an environmental impact statement or to proceed with the project.
 
The public can submit comments on the Presidio Trust website at https://presidio.gov/about/planning/letterman-residential-project or by sending an email to lettermanresidential@presidiotrust.gov. Comments must be submitted by 5 pm on Monday, April 20.
