Cordia Energy Center San Francisco Announces New Steam Service Contracts and Community Engagement Initiatives
Cordia Energy Center San Francisco (ECSF) is pleased to announce the execution of two new steam service contracts, showcasing its commitment to sustainable, cost-effective energy solutions while supporting the city's growth and historic preservation.
ECSF has partnered with Swords to Plowshares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing for veterans, to supply steam service to 629 Post Street. The contract facilitates the residential conversion of the building without the need for an electric service upgrade or internal infrastructure modifications, resulting in significant capital expenditure (CAPEX) savings.
"We are proud to support Swords to Plowshares in their mission to provide much-needed housing for our veterans. This partnership stresses ECSF’s dedication to delivering energy solutions that enhance affordability and sustainability," said Michael Eurkus, General Manager of ECSF.
Steven Culberson, Deputy Director of Residential Programs and Housing Development at Swords to Plowshares, added, "Swords to Plowshares Veterans Rights Organization (Swords) is excited to join the Cordia steam network in San Francisco at 629 Post Street. Swords is a 50-year-old non-profit organization serving veterans in San Francisco and Oakland. As part of the multi-layered services that we provide, we have over 500 units of affordable, permanent, supportive housing for homeless and formerly homeless veterans. 629 Post will be part of the 500 units of PSH and is the first building that Swords will own outright in San Francisco. We are excited to partner with Cordia for many reasons but particularly due to the environmentally favorable impacts of steam."
In partnership with UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), ECSF has executed a steam service contract for the historic student housing building at 100 McAllister Street. The agreement allows the landmark property to undergo renovations without the costly and disruptive process of upgrading its electric service. This solution ensures the preservation of the building’s historical integrity while delivering substantial CAPEX savings.
"At ECSF, we understand the importance of balancing modernization with preservation, especially in a city as rich in history as San Francisco. We’re honored to support UC Law as they enhance their student housing offerings," added Eurkus.
“We are excited to work with Cordia on the 100 McAllister project,” said David Seward, CEO of UC Law. “We look forward to the positive impact it will have on our campus and the local community.”
In addition to its operational successes, ECSF was a lead sponsor of San Francisco’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at Civic Center Plaza. This cherished community tradition brought families together for an evening of festive activities, heartwarming sing-alongs, and a toy giveaway benefiting 500 children.
ECSF General Manager Michael Eurkus reflected on the event: “We were honored to join City and State officials, including Mayor London Breed, Senator Scott Wiener, and even Santa Claus, to light the magnificent 50-foot noble fir. Our involvement emphasizes ECSF’s unwavering commitment to the City of San Francisco, its families, and its future.”
