California-Based Nonprofit, Home for a Home, to Build Milestone Home in Guatemala March 2024

Board of Directors and Volunteers to Travel to Antigua March 3 to 10, 2024

San Francisco, CA (February 26, 2024) - Home for a Home will make the first of two annual visits with volunteers to Guatemala on March 3 to build its 528th home since the organization’s inception in 2012. Initially founded as a real estate-focused organization, Home for a Home has since expanded to involve a wide variety of industries to support its mission. 

“We’re gearing up for another impactful building trip in Guatemala,” says Executive Director, Joel Vendette. “We have an incredible group of volunteers joining us and it’s always a meaningful experience to build a new house by hand and welcome the family into their new home.”

This trip will consist of Home for a Home staff, board member and two volunteers. It typically takes one week to fully complete a new home build, providing the family with a safe and secure place to call home. The home scheduled to be built during this trip was funded by Los Angeles-based Realtor® Melanie Tielmann, who raised $3,300 to fund the home and will be participating with the physical construction.

Home for a Home is dedicated to serving Guatemala because over 1 million people live in inadequate housing with dirt floors. Of these, many live in huts with plastic or metal roofs and corn stalks for walls. Even when faced with such stark adversity, the local communities typically consist of smiling people often in colorful traditional dress embracing a vibrant culture.

“We’re excited to continue creating an incredible impact by providing a safe place to call home for families in this beautiful community,” continues Vendette.
