About Us

The Lawyer Referral and Information Service of the Bar Association of San Francisco is a non-profit legal resource for the community, handling 50,000 requests for assistance annually. We refer individuals in need of legal assistance to experienced, insured lawyers for initial consultation and representation, and can also provide referrals to over 250 different agency resources and free legal services programs, if appropriate. We arrange 30-minute consultations for clients to speak with lawyers appropriately qualified in the area of law the client needs, for $35. That fee is waived for injury matters, including on the job injuries. We also offer a ''Lawyers On Call'' program whereby attorneys provide brief legal advice by telephone to people with simple legal questions. We provide educational workshops for the community and have been a yearly presenter at the SF Chamber of Commerce. Our program is certified by the State Bar of California and nationally recognized as a model program by the American Bar Association.  Reasons for this recognition include our ongoing oversight regarding the quality of the services provided and our practice area qualifications for the attorneys who participate in the service. We have a reduced fee/sliding scale program for those who are income eligible and, through our Military Assistance Program, we offer reduced fee services to military personnel and their families and to veterans.
