BuildSF/Public Policy Forum: Strengthening SF's Seawall
BuildSF/Public Policy Forum:
Strengthening San Francisco's Seawall
Join us Tuesday, March 13 for Public Policy Forum as the Port of San Francisco presents on their plan to repair the San Francisco Seawall.
Built in 1879, the Seawall is one of San Francisco’s oldest pieces of infrastructure. It is the foundation of over three miles of the city’s northeastern waterfront, provides flood protection for downtown San Francisco and supports transportation infrastructure for the BART, MUNI, and ferry networks.
In 2015 under the leadership of Mayor Lee, the Port of San Francisco launched the San Francisco Seawall Earthquake Safety and Disaster Prevention Program, to significantly improve earthquake safety and performance of the Embarcadero Seawall, provide near-term flood protection improvements, and plan for additional long-term resilience and adaptation of the northern waterfront. Seismic improvements to the Seawall will require local, state, and federal partnerships for project legislation, permitting, and funding. San Francisco’s Proposed Ten-Year Capital Plan for Fiscal Year 2018-2027 includes a proposed $350 million general obligation bond for the November 2018 ballot to help protect and strengthen the Seawall. The bond will require two-thirds voter approval and will not raise tax rates.
The Forum begins at 12:00 pm on March 13 in the Chamber boardroom. Light lunch will be provided thanks to our generous sponsors at Safeway.
